SANDBANKS Rob McAlpine: I wanted to explore a multiple, full-figure image. The beach is an emotionally casual yet vibrant and energized environment. I deliberately removed the women from my original 1980s photo to make a "manscape" that was not overtly or politically gay. Still straight men often see a very direct gay painting, while women usually see a neutral beach scene.
